Classic Route to Everest

Most of the trekking in Everest regions now starts from Lukla after a short flight from Kathmandu. Trekkers with good walking experience and who gain good physical health will find this rewarding. Starting from Jiri, the trekking passes through parts of Solukhumbu that are relatively undeveloped compared with the northern part of the district around Namche Bazaar. This enables trekkers to experience many traditional aspects of the culture of the local people that are less easy to see above Lukla. The trail passes through numerous settlements of the different ethnic group including Tamang, Jirel, Rai, Brahmin and Chhetri and, in the highlands, of course, the Sherpas. Trekkers will also have the chance to visit its many colorful gompas, and have tea with their monks. The trekking trail below Namche is also worth visiting.

Jiri Everest Base Camp trekking is best for acclimatization since the trail follows a gradual ascent. After one rest day at Namche Bazar, the trail continues to the Monastery at Khumbu Region Tengboche where trekkers will be rewarded by the panoramic view of Everest (8848 m) Cho Oyu (8152m) Lhotse (8516 m) Makalu (8463m) and Ama Dablam (6456m), Thamserku and many other surrounding mountains. The trekking continues across wide trails to different small settlements, gaining altitude steadily. The part of Kalapaththar and Mt. Everest follows many peaks through Base Camp built on a rocky glacier just near the Khumbu Ice Fall. When trekkers reach Kalapaththar, the southwest face of Everest can be clearly seen. The return trek leads to Lukla for the flight back to Kathmandu.

Highlights of the trek

Scenic drive to Jiri, panoramic land scene views while walking from Jiri, real Nepalese lifestyles, settlement of mixed ethnic groups visit to the Edmond Hillary School, past friendly Sherpa villages and Buddhist monasteries, sandy plain of Gorakshep, the broad summit of Kalapathar (5,545m), Amazing view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Amadablam, Thamserku and many other mountains and Khumbu Glacier.
