Langtang Gosainkunda Helambu Trek

The name Lang is Tibetan for ‘Yak” and teng means to ‘follow”. Langtand is narrow valley sandwiched between the main Himalayan range to the north, bordering Tibet, and a slightly lower range of snowy peaks to the south.  A visit to Langtang valley offers and opportunity to explore villages, small peaks and visit glaciers at a comfortably low elevation. Though it’s close to Kathmandu, the region sees far fewer trekkers than Everest and Annapurna. Mighty Langtang Lirung (7246m) dominates the valley to the north: Gang Chhenpo (6388m) and the trekking peak of Naya Khangri(5846m) lie to the south: and Dorje Lakpa (6966m) protects to the east end of the valley. The area was designated Nepal’s first Himalayan National Park in 1971, although the park was not officially established until 1976.

This itinerary allows plenty of time to explore the upper reaches of the valley, with the chance to ascend 4680m Kyanjing-Ri for stunning views of Langtang Lirung and many other magnificent mountains rising in Tibet. The route leads to Nepal’s most holy lakes and after crossing a high pass, you’ll enter the region of Helambu for a real taste of Nepalese hill life. The people here are mainly Sherpas (Yolmu) and Tamangs and the richness of their Buddhist cultural traditions are everywhere to be seen.
